Integrys Energy Services Offers a tip for a "Greener" Holiday Without Extra Cost

COLUMBUS, OHIO – Who wouldn't love to be more "green" this holiday season? Using a programmable thermostat, energy-saving light bulbs and recycled paper products are just a few ways the average household can reduce its impact on the environment. But it's hard to avoid the increased energy usage that comes from heating a home for guests, lighting the tree or preparing holiday feasts. And with today's economic worries and extra costs of the holidays, few are willing to pay premium prices.

Luckily, residents of three Ohio regions have an eco-friendly energy option at no additional cost. Customers of Integrys Energy Services need only opt for the "Ecovations" blend of natural gas and "biogas" that reduces their use of non-renewable energy for their normal holiday energy activities. Ecovations energy is delivered just like regular natural gas, works exactly the same and shows up on regular natural gas bills from the local utility.

Biogas Available at no Additional Cost in Ohio

Many recent national polls indicate varying levels of awareness and interest in sustainable or "green" products and services, but agree that consumers weigh the benefits of being more environmentally conscious against the financial costs to their households. A recent survey of existing Integrys Energy Services' customers indicated 72 percent would opt for renewable gas if the cost were the same as conventional natural gas. Twenty-five percent said they would switch to biogas even if it cost more.

Integrys Energy Services absorbs the costs of providing a more sustainable natural gas offering, and planting trees in partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation, in order to make eco-friendly gas available to all consumers without increasing its competitive rates.

The biogas provided by Integrys Energy Services is derived from sources that may include methane generated from manure digesters, sewage treatment plants and landfill gas wells. The Ecovations biogas is pipeline quality, equaling the energy potential of conventional gas, and supplies eight percent of customers' usage, which helps decrease reliance on fossil fuels.

In order to impact the environment further by helping reduce the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, Integrys Energy Services has partnered with the Arbor Day Foundation. For every new enrollment in the Ecovations program, a tree will be planted in one of our nation's forests.
